Some of you might be familiar with forum, but most don’t really see the power of using forums as a big part of their marketing strategy. I will try to draw you a picture of all the positive effects forum marketing can have on your internet business. I will also show you what most people do wrong and how you can get the most out this method with a great marketing strategy.

What are forums?

Forums are communities online in the form of message boards. You can post your own topics or answer to others posts. There are different forums to almost any topic online, from fishing and golf to forum marketing and business opportunities.

How and why should you do forum marketing?

Forum marketing can be one of the most targeted methods online, and it’s so easy to do. You just sign up for a forum and start posting your ads, right?

WRONG!

A lot of people are commonly doing that mistake. They go into different forums and post their ads all around or they us some sort of submitter to do it for them. If you want to get banned from a lot of forums and loose credibility at the same time, this is the way to do it.

The power of forum marketing is that it’s one of the best ways to build relations and a reputation online. Do not start by posting your ads everywhere in the forum. Actually, don’t post any ads at all (except in the classifieds sections, but this is not where the power of this marketing strategy lays).

Become part of the community, ask questions, answer questions, make friends and discuss topics that interest you (and your business). Show people that you’re not just another hyped up guy trying to earn money on tricking them into something. Be seen as a real, trustworthy person that is open to communicate with people. This shows you will be a good sponsor if they want to join your company.

What techniques can help me do this?

BE SEEN! Be sure to use an avatar (a picture of yourself or a logo). This can be added to your profile and will be shown beside all of your posts. This image will make it easy for people to recognise you and gives them a feeling of knowing you after seeing it all over.

BE PROFESSIONAL! Do not use foul language or let your emotions get ahead of you. Be clear about your meanings, but try basing them on facts.

BE POSITIVE! Do not talk badly about other people businesses unless they are proven scams (be humble). In internet marketing, do not make your company look good by talking bad about the competition. Talking bad about other online businesses will only cast a shadow over the whole internet marketing concept (including your business).

But how do I get people to my business?

There are two places you should have links back to you own business.

The first place to add your link is in your profile. It’s a perfectly legit and normal place to have a link to your main business.

The second place is in your signature. This is also done through your profile in the given forum, but be sure to read the forum rules before doing this (some forums do not allow ads in your signature). The signature is added to the end of all your posts with a line in between. Every time you communicate on the forum, your site will be promoted without you looking like an aggressive promoter.

You should make it a short description of your business linking to your business.

SIDE NOTE: Forums do not use HTML to ad colour, font, etc. to the text, but a code called bbc. An easy program to help you make the text and effects you want in this code is FASS. It’s free and can be found here: http://www.pawsoft.com/?p=fass/home

If you really want to make progress you should also track your links in the signature. Many online businesses have tracking software for this purpose. You should always track your results as part of your marketing strategy and you can do that through GlobalNPN or another tracking proram.

What forums should I use?

Since my expertise is in Internet Marketing I have some forums I would like to recommend forums in this category.

The Warrior Forum – The Warrior Forum is a very friendly forum for Internet marketing and learning how to make money online. Many of these forums are rough places. Not for the sensitive types. However, I have never experienced this on The Warrior Forum. The people here are very willing to help beginners learn how to make money online.

Digital Point Forums – Digital Point Forums are very active Internet marketing forums. Digital Point is a hub for people making money (or hoping to make money) on the Internet. I encourage you to check out all of the forums at Digital Point. The amount of information on these forums is absolutely amazing. This might be the most active Internet marketing forum.

Big Boards – This is a directory of forums in every category you can imagine. Find a forum in your niche here.

Hope this marketing strategy will help you do great in your internet marketing business.

Have a great week!

Why do some MLM distributors make the right choices and shape successful MLM businesses?

It’s simple. Consider this situation.

You are standing in a room with three doors. Behind each door is an opportunity, a pathway that will lead you to either success or failure. You don’t know what kind of opportunity or success lies behind each door, so you have three options.

1. You can stay standing. Don’t make a choice or a obligation. Just don’t do anything.

Stay where you are in life.

A lot of people make this choice. It’s easier to watch TV, nag about your job, and hope that the government will raise salaries, lower charges, and eliminates taxes. Yeah, that’s a fantastic business plan for success. Just cross your fingers and hope that something good will occur. After all, why take chances? Your neighbors and co-workers will only criticize your efforts to be different. They want you to stay behind with them. Misery truly does love company.

2. Just blindly pick a door. Maybe you’re feeling lucky, hope that this next hype will work in your favor, or feel good about the vibes from picking your lucky number.

Does trial and error work? Yes. But it works very, very slowly. If it takes a lifetime of trial and error to find the right path to MLM success, you won’t have much time to enjoy the glory of success. Why re-invent the wheel? Why repeat someone else’s mistakes? “Practice makes perfect” really isn’t true. Practice only perfects your ability to make the same mistake over and over again.

3. Ask the people behind those doors.

That’s the power a mentor can add to your “desire for success.” Doesn’t it make sense to simply ask someone what is behind the doors? Why take chances with your life? Why leave your MLM success subject to guessing, finger crossing, and a lottery mentality?

Finding a mentor can take years off your path to MLM success. A mentor can help you avoid disasters and make sure your work accumulates to your personal success. There is nothing more frustrating than lots of your effort wasted. Too many people work hard in MLM only to find that they have to start over again and again. Ouch!!!

Your mentor can share with you the experiences of others. While other people have paid the price of trial and error, your mentor can give these results for free. That sure beats getting a flat forehead from beating your head against a brick wall from frustration.

Your mentor can ask about your goals, time commitment, experience, and preferences. He will ask about your present and desired lifestyle, if you like to retail, or how comfortable you are with different styles of sponsoring and business building.

Your mentor can guide you through the minefields of “hype.” He can tell you if one person made a big check at the expense of 100 people receiving no check. He will show you the pitfalls of short-term strategies. And, you will find out what really works — and what doesn’t.

The successful big earners in MLM built their businesses from using two successful strategies:

Strategy #1 for MLM success: If you want to learn how to be successful in MLM, learn from someone who is already successful. Become a Siamese twin to a successful MLM leader who you can relate to. Make her or him your best friend and companion.

Sounds simple, but new distributors almost always violate this strategy. If you want to earn $100,000 a year, would you ask am neighbor who earns $40,000 a year how to do it? Would you value his opinion and advice in this matter? Would you take your $100,000 opportunity to him for his review and decision?

No. Of course not.

If your neighbor knew how to earn $100,000 a year, he certainly wouldn’t be earning only $40,000 a year. You wouldn’t take your plumbing problems to your lawyer. You wouldn’t expect your dentist to have the teaching skills to educate your children. And you certainly wouldn’t go to your government for business advice — they only know how to produce deficits!

So, whom does the new distributor ask for advice on his new MLM opportunity? His neighbor who says the secret to success is to watch plenty of TV and to choose lucky numbers in the lottery? A friend who tried to build an MLM business but failed? Or, should the new distributor ask his attorney because he received a degree for memorizing law books and legal codes?

Your strategy for MLM success is to get advice and guidance from someone who knows how to be successful in MLM. So, find your mentor first, and then follow your mentor’s advice.

Don’t take bad advice from unqualified friends and enemies.

Strategy #2 for MLM success: Learn from someone who has a system for success that you can follow.

There are many great athletes who are naturals. With very little training and instruction they reach high levels of success.

While they may be excellent performers, they may not have the ability to transfer their knowledge to you. When you ask one of these gifted, natural athletes how they do it, they’ll say, “Gosh, I just go out and do it.”

That’s not the kind of instruction you want.

You want specific instructions, a step-by-step approach, a proven path to your MLM success. Make sure your mentor has a “guaranteed” success plan that works.

How do you know your mentor’s plan works? Simply ask for the names of people who have used the plan and observe their progress. If the mentor is successful, but his personallysponsored distributors are struggling, what do you think will happen to you?

If the mentor is successful, and his personally-sponsored distributors are successful, that’s the place you want to be.

It would be nice if you could learn MLM success from high school, a university, or from watching a Saturday morning TV. But you can’t. If you really want MLM success, use these twomentor strategies to turbocharge your MLM career.

Why do some MLM distributors constantly make terrible choices, lose money, watch their MLM businesses crumble, and lead a life of defeat with no results for their hard work?
If you want to earn $100,000 a year, would you ask am neighbor who earns $40,000 a year how to do it? Would you value his opinion and advice in this matter?

The most incredible stupid tricks network marketing companies do is letting some legal department enforce their policies and procedures.

Think about this for a bit. If a network marketing company appoints a legal team to write the policies and procedures and administers the legalities of the company, the network company has generally spent about a quarter of a million dollars retaining this legal department.

So now the legal department has to justify that they just added a quarter of a million dollars overhead to the network company. So the legal team composes Policies and Procedures so complex, so confusing – it’s just mumbo jumbo.

And you have to read chapter 9, and remember section C. Then down in 14.D, they mention it again, and you have to apply those 2 together. They wrote a bit about it up there. Now they add the rest of it down here.

But if you don’t connect the two, you do not know what they’re talking about.

Legal representatives LOVE Writing All This BS!

For example: in some network companies, the P & Ps say you yourself are responsible for monitoring your downline organization’s activities. If THEY do something illegal, then YOU are responsible for it.

A friend of mine got terminated because one of his downline members enrolled someone who was in another opportunity sideline, which was cross recruiting. But they held the sponsor accountable, and they terminated him, so they could steal his check. Real simple. Real simple.

And your people on top signing the bonus checks must have built a downline themselves. MLM CEOs who never built a downline don’t know anything about MLM distributors.

Network Marketing Companies Are NOTHING Without Distributors!

CEOs who have built a downline know that. They know that companies would be nothing without the distributors.

Sure, they need a product. And yes, they have to ship this product. They have to send a bonus check, of course. But who is building the company? Who’s building the volume?

Answer: The distributor. And if the CEO understands that, then they treat the distributors like gold. They don’t have some legal department trying to terminate their distributors.

Stupid Trick #2

And the other stupid thing network marketing companies do is, they don’t listen to the field. The distributors are in the fire every day. Companies need to learn what their distributors see, what they do, what they hear and what they say.

We tell people all the time, “Read your Policies & Procedures.” A friend and team mate of mine got a phone call the other day from the co-owner of a network marketing company. Actually, his secretary called him to ask a few questions about why he was telling people to read their Policies & Procedures. Because they got a bunch of people doing it and it ticked them off!

This company, based out of Texas, has the most ruthless Policies & Procedures you’ve ever seen. They are unbelievable.

Want To Sell The Business YOU Built? Gobbledygook!

For example – if you desired to sell your downline, sell your business, you have a 10-page document that you have to fill out. And before you offer the business to anyone, you have to offer it to the company first.

And when you send your request for them to buy it, you have to include a $100 nonrefundable fee. And then they can say yes or no!

Next step is, when the company says “No”, they will then send you info about 3 upline members you can sell your business to. You have to offer it to each of them one at a time. And the P & Ps instruct that to buy YOUR business, they must resign their own business.

So usually, they say “No”. And after all 3 have turned you down, one at a time, then you have to offer your business to somebody in your downline. And they make it so clear – they say “if you circumvent any part of this procedure, you are terminated.”

So my friend told the secretary to have the co-owner call him and they could meat about the situation. But the secretary said that he does not talk to people directly!

And my friend said, “Well, he talked to YOU!” So she told me he doesn’t return phone calls, doesn’t talk to any distributors directly.

My friend was stunned, and as was I when he told me. I sat in my chair thinking, “Wow! This is unbelievable!” Now this guy wants to talk to my friend to find out why we are telling people to read their policies and procedures. That is unbelivable. what a trip!

P.S. – Have you read YOUR P & Ps lately?

The call for a new brand of leaders have been heard for decades. Today’s leaders needs the leadership skills of a new era. Napoleon Hill started talking about it as early as 1937 in the famous book “Think and Grow Rich”, but it’s still as important today as was back in the 1930′s.

According to Napoleon Hill there are two forms of leadership. “Leadership by Consent” and “Leadership by Force”. Nopoleon shows the first for as the most effective and points to history for evidence. The significant downfall of dictators and kings shows that people will not follow the force of a leader indefinitly.

Napoleon Hill further talked about the importance of being an inteligent follower in order to develope into a leader. You need to be able to follow a leader efficiently in order to become an effective leader.

Seventy or so years ago, Napoleon Hill wrote down what he believed were the major attributes needed to be a successful leader. Although he used the male pronouns, Napoleon made it very clear in his book “Think and Grow Rich”, that he believes woman had just as much potential as men, which where extremly forward thinking for his time. I chose to quote his words “as is”:

1. UNWAVERING COURAGE based upon knowledge of self, and of one’s occupation. No follower wishes to be dominated by a leader who lacks self-confidence and courage. No intelligent follower will be dominated by such a leader very long.

2. SELF-CONTROL. The man who cannot control himself, can never control others. Self-control sets a mighty example for one’s followers, which the more intelligent will emulate.

3. A KEEN SENSE OF JUSTICE. Without a sense of fairness and justice, no leader can command and retain the respect of his followers.

4. DEFINITENESS OF DECISION. The man who wavers in his decisions, shows that he is not sure of himself. He cannot lead others successfully.

5. DEFINITENESS OF PLANS. The successful leader must plan his work, and work his plan. A leader who moves by guesswork, without practical, definite plans, is comparable to a ship witho ut a rudder. Sooner or later he will land on the rocks.

6. THE HABIT OF DOING MORE THAN PAID FOR. One of the penalties of leadership is the necessity of willingness, upon the part of the leader, to do more than he requires of his followers.

7. A PLEASING PERSONALITY. No slovenly, careless person can become a successful leader. Leadership calls for respect. Followers will not respect a leader who does not grade high on all of the factors of a Pleasing Personality.

8. SYMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING. The successful leader must be in sympathy with his followers. Moreover, he must understand them and their problems.

9. MASTERY OF DETAIL. Successful leadership calls for mastery of details of the leader’s position.

10. WILLINGNESS TO ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY. The successful leader must be willing to assume responsibility for the mistakes and the shortcomings of his followers. If he tries to shift this responsibility, he will not remain the leader. If one of his followers makes a mistake, and shows himself incompetent, the leader must consider that it is he who failed.

11. COOPERATION. The successful leader must understand, and apply the principle of cooperative effort and be able to induce his followers to do the same. Leadership calls for POWER, and power calls for COOPERATION.

Napoleon Hill where one of the first to call out for the change in leadership, but many followed him.

In 1970 Robert Greenleaf puplished the essay “The Servant as Leader” which first introduced the term “servant leadersip”. This became the title of his most important work, puplished in 2002. He there introdused his “best test”. His “best test” for grading servant leadership, which he knew would be hard to grade, is stated:

Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And, what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they benefit or at least not be further deprived?

Thinking rich and becoming rich will certainly put you in a position of leadership. I hope that some of Hill’s and Greenleaf’s suggestion will encourage you to decelope your own leadership skills and help change what seems to have become ordinary business in today’s leaders.

Truth: People are people – not numbers. They have goals, dreams and desires.

They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandmothers, and grandfather’s to someone that loves them. They are not a number, but real people. Your integraty and success is only secured through relationship marketing.

If you treat them like a number, I promise you: you have NO future in network marketing.

This lie teaches people to be a recruiter, not a sponsor. Recruit, recruit, recruit.

Numbers, numbers, numbers. Lies, lies, lies.

A recruiter never knows their personally sponsored people’s “WHY.” Or their dreams, goals, or spouse’s or children’s names. It’s only about numbers.

To succeed long-term, you need to become a mentor with a servant’s heart.

When you do, people will ask you to PLEASE sponsor them into your business.

The Heavy Hitters tell you network marketing is a sales business.

It’s not.

Truth: Network marketing is a teaching & mentoring business. If you study vitamins, or long-distance switches, or the age of the monk in the white lab coat that scraped the mold off the rock on the full moon twice a year … or ANY product or service … you’re wasting your time.

Your product is people. So study people. Find out how you can help them reach their dreams.

THEIR dreams. Not your dreams.

People join people. They don’t join companies. People don’t care that the president of your company is a family man and has 3 or 4 families to prove it.

Build people. People will build the business.

When you build people, your retention rate goes through the roof.

The amazing thing about relationship marketing is that it’s duplicatable, so people will keep doing it.

Hits, visits, unique visitors, click-throughs, CPM (cost per thousand impression), CPM or PPC (cost per click/pay per click), CPL (cost per lead), ROI (return on investment)… what does it all mean?

You might find your self drowning when trying to figure out the conflicting information on how these terms can affect your success or failure in online marketing.

Quality vs. Quantity

For most marketers, especially network marketer and small business owners, there is a lot of competition both off- and online. At the end of the day you are just trying to attract more prospects who are interested in joining your team or buying your product. You can have a million clicks and unique visitors, but how many of those qualified people sign up or buy?

Let us take a closer look into online marketing and advertising to get to the bottom of the ongoing marketing discussion going on between online marketing “experts”.

There are a lot of good companies that have done research on this and here is some of the facts that’s been found:

According to Georgia Tech’s Graphics, Visualization And Usability survey, 84.8% of Internet users use search engines to find websites.

Search engines create more awareness about websites than all advertising combined – including banners, newspapers, TV and radio (as reported by IMT Strategies, a division of the Meta Group).

According to Price Waterhouse Coopers, “search revenue accounted for 47 percent of 2009 second quarter revenues, up from the 44 percent reported in the second quarter of 2008. Display advertising, the second largest format, accounted for 35 percent, followed by Classifieds (10 percent), and Lead Generation (7 percent) of 2009 second quarter revenues”, totaling $5.5 billion.

It’s quite clear that search engine traffic is extremely effective at getting loyal customers. So don’t you think it’s time to get some free quality traffic?

The “downside” to this kind of advertising and marketing is that it will take time to get it going, but building a strong foundation in your marketing will secure your results in the future. You might ask any honest marketing expert how fast they accumulated wealth and they will all tell you to take the time to build a foundation, no mater how good of a marketer you are.

When you look to find new business partners in a cold market, you should ONLY ever focus on people actively looking to make money from home. It is a waste of your time to pursue anybody who has not recently demonstrated that desire.

OK. Let’s divide “people who want to make money from home” into 2 categories:

Those who have experience in MLM.

Those who don’t.

For a lot of reasons, the “Success In 10 Steps” ebook is targeted to group #1. The book addresses their specific frustrations. This is a group you do not have to explain MLM to – they already understand the concept. (And sometimes, the idea of and the reason for seeking “residual income” isn’t that easy for people to get.)

You could come up with a lot of other reasons, but the bottom line is that group #1 is just a lot more targeted. There are millions of names in that group, and 99% of them want help.

To build your own big income in MLM, the people you sponsor will need a constant stream of hot prospects. I can help you do that for them, and for yourself. Just contact me by clicking the contact link on top of this blog or leave a comment.

People have questioned me about relationship marketing and ask me to give them the so called “secrets” to be successful. There really is no secrets to relationship marketing, but since this question has been asked so many times I started to study people who where considered successful by other business networkers and relationship marketers. Maybe they had found a secret I didn’t know about…

I studied how they interacted with others. I talked to people who had interacted with them and listened to what they had to say about them, and especially about how they treated the people around them. I talked to the successful relationship marketers themselves and listened to how they talked about others, also those not present. I also asked them what what they liked most about relationship marketing and focusing on building relationships rather than just selling.

The result of my small research might not come as a surprise to most of us, but might be a little disappointing to those who where looking for the “ultimate secret” to relationship marketing. Although there is no ultimate secret to this, it is interesting to see what people who are successful in relationship is doing well. Here is what I found:

1. They are sincerely interested in the people around them
When attending network marketing events they always take a censer interest in others. They do not necessarily follow up with everyone that comes their way, but focus on the people they feel they can help and give them their full attention. They are also good listeners, and when talking to others they show an interest why giving good followup question. They do not only listen impatiently waiting for their own turn to talk.

2. They operate with a servant’s heart
Successful relationship marketer give without asking anything in return. They trust that by helping enough people, life will return the favor in one way or another. The harder you work at making contacts, helping other people and developing relationships, the greater the universe of people who have a strong positive feeling for you and the more you are likely to be lucky.

3. They are people with confidence, not greed and big ego
Successful relationship marketers have a good feeling about themselves and do not need constant positive feedback from others to validate themselves. This is important as they can focus their attention on others and not having to compete for the attention. The confidence, in contrast to a big ego, will affect people around them in a positive way. They do not have to put others down to build themselves up. This will allow them to make the people around them feel that they too are great.

4. They are actively involved in personal development
Being committed to personal development makes the successful relationship marketer better protected against negativity. It gives them important insight in understanding destructive behavior in communication, which enables them to stay away from such behavior. In relationship with others they can then stay positive, which again attracts positive relationships to them.

5. They truly love people
Successful relationship marketers simply love people and finding ways to help them. They do not only help people as a technique to make money, but they see value in their own life measured by how much they can help others. They center everything they do around how it helps others.

Completing my search I realize that these five things is already known to me and has been done by successful relationship marketers for hundreds of years, so they do not really qualify as any “ultimate secrets”. If I would have to find a secret throughout this study it would have to be that most people are not committing them self to do these five things. This means that the few that do immediately stands out from the crowd and make an impression. Committing themselves not just to do the five things, but making them an essential part of their lives and who they are.

For those of you who wanted to know the “ultimate secret” I’m sorry to disappoint, but if you are interested in success in relationship marketing, these five things will surely be a great place for you to start.

PILLAR 1: “Company Management Experience with Integrity”

How can you figure out if the companies’ Management has experience?

The best way is to do a Google search for the owners name in quotes with the word SCAM or FRAUD. Find out who the owners are and what they’ve done in the past.

Find out if the have ever had the experience of building their own downline and if they where successful doing it. Or, are they Corporate Fortune 500 Executives that have never had any experience building a successful downline in Network Marketing.

Next – how can you figure out if the companies’ Management has Integrity?

You need to read their Policies and Procedures. This is your contract with your company. Is it written in the distributor’s highest interest or does it only protect the interests of the company and the investors?

Somtimes this contract might be hard to find. Many companies have a short “Terms & Conditions” page you must agree to during the joining process. The Terms & Conditions may contain a phrase such as, “You agree to be bound by the Company Policies and procedures, Compensation Plan, and Code of Conduct.”

Many distributors cannot see these documents until after they receive they’ve signed up, and most NEVER READ them, if they did, then many would become quite upset.

Just recently a shocking thing happened with the distributors of a big company that probably many of you have heard of, and sadly, some of you where part of. I’m sorry to bring this up again to the people who are already frustrated and strugling with what have happened.

The company I’m talking about is iLearningGlobal. The following excerpt is from a letter the company management sent out to all their distributors:

Per the Marketer agreement terms and conditions section five (5) and Policy and Procedures section 11.4, we are providing a 30-day notification of the termination of the network marketing model.

From Terms and Conditions Document point five (5) which is available at marketer.ilearningglobal.tv: “… iLG reserves the right to terminate all Marketer Agreements upon 30 days notice if the Company elects to: (1) cease business operations; (2) dissolve as a business entity; or (3) terminate distribution of its products and/or services via direct selling channels. Marketer may cancel this Agreement at any time, and for any reason, upon written notice to iLG at its principal business address. iLG may cancel this Agreement for any reason upon 30 days advance written notice to the Marketer.”

If a company has such clauses in their policies they usually tell you that it’s part of any contract, but this is wrong, I’ve seen contracts without it.

As the event has shown, companies do use this clause, so READ YOUR CONTRACT!

It does not matter how great the products are, how lucrative the pay plan, or anything else. iLearning where actually quite well respected and had some really great products, BUT Without Pillar #1, there is no point in looking further.

Why go work so hard towards your goals and undergoing massive personal development to become a leader in your company if it can all be taken away from you at management’s whim?

Look for the words Terminate, Termination, Involuntary Termination, Does your contract have a yearly renewal clause. Also look for the words Ongoing, Ongoing Sponsoring, Recruiting, or Retail Sales. If a company has a minimum monthly sales clause for you to get paid, it means you can never truly retire from this company.

You will find more info about the 5 pillars in “Success in 10 Steps“.
